A Dachshund is an adorable dog with a long body and short legs. Dachshunds are independent and can be stubborn. However, these little dogs are brilliant, affectionate, and make great pets. Dachshunds are purebred and in standard and miniature sizes. Dachshunds are bred with other dogs to create 30 popular mixed breed dogs. Dachshund mixes have distinctive appearances and personalities with expressions that are irresistible. While a Standard Dachshund is great for many pet owners, a Dachshund mix may just be the best dog breed for you.

The Most Popular Dachshund Mixes

Basschshund

Basschshund.

A Basschshund has the long, floppy ears familiar to the Basset Hound and the Dachshund. The breed is typically medium size at maturity. They shed quite a bit, so they need frequent brushing. Basschshunds are independent, have a bold temperament, are affectionate, and love being with their family. They make great family dogs.  

Border Weenie

When a Border Collie and Dachshund are bred, the result is a Border Weenie. This breed is playful, energetic, and fun to be around. Border Weenies inherit the genes from both parents. In terms of their appearance, they may have the long body and short legs of a Dachshund but the long, silky coat of a Border Collie.

Boxer Dachshund

A Boxer Dachshund is precisely what it sounds like, a cross between a Dachshund and a Boxer. When these dogs reach maturity, they’ll be small to medium in size. However, they won’t be as tall as a standard Boxer. The Boxer Dachshund is playful and fun to be with. Like a Dachshund, this breed tends to have a stubborn streak. They’re great dogs for families with children. 

Chiweenie

A Chiweenie is a mix of a Dachshund and a Chihuahua. Chiweenies can have short or long coats, depending on which parent it takes after. Because of the small size of the Chiweenie, it’s an excellent choice for any home, even apartments. Chiweenies are affectionate, confident, and are the perfect dog for anyone who lives in an apartment.

Dachsador

A Dachsador is also referred to as a Labshund or a Doxidor. This medium-sized breed is friendly to people and other dogs and has a laidback personality. Dachsadors love to play but can learn to be relaxed and calm. They can adapt to any kind of living space. Another advantage of this breed is that they have a coat that’s easy to care for and doesn’t need much grooming. 

Dachshund Shepherd

A Dachshund Shepherd is medium to large size at maturity. However, this breed isn’t as tall as a purebred German Shepherd. Due to the coats of both parents, a Dachshund Shepherd will have a double coat that needs frequent brushing. The breed has a lot of energy, loves to play, and is social, so they’re fun to be around.

Dachsweiler

Dachsweiler.

The Dachsweiler is one of the rarest Dachshund crossbreeds. The puppies can look like either the Rottweiler or the Dachshund. For example, puppies in a litter may have Rottweiler heads but long bodies like Dachshunds. Dachsweilers are great pets for families and wonderful companions for children. However, they must be properly socialized. They have abundant energy and love playtime with their families.

Dalmachshund

The Dalmachshund also referred to as the Dachmatian, has a beautiful dappled coat similar to the Dalmation that makes it unique. The breed is strong-willed, is intelligent, and loves to play. The Dalmachshund is a delightful breed for the owner that has the time to devote to them. Since they don’t shed a lot, they only need minimal grooming. 

Dameranian

Dameranian.

A Dameranian is a cross between a Pomeranian and a Dachshund. These dogs are beautiful. However, the breed needs frequent brushing. A Dameranian can have different coat types that are thick and medium to long. The coat has the fluffiness of a Pomeranian. Dameranians make a great addition to any family and are an affectionate, social breed.

Daug

Daug.

A Daug is a sweet, affectionate breed that’s a cross between a Pug and a Dachshund. This medium-sized breed has the round head of a Pug and a cute, wrinkled face. They have the long body of the Dachshund parent. The coat may be wiry or smooth and sheds a minimal amount. 

Doberman Dachshund

The Doberman Dachshund has an excellent disposition. Dobermans and Dachshunds have similar temperaments. Both breeds are loyal to their owners, courageous, and love playing and spending time with their owners. With proper training, Doberman Dachshunds are an excellent addition to families, even those with younger children. 

Docker

The loyal, affectionate docker is small to medium and the perfect addition to your family. The coat a Docker has depends on whether the Dachshund parent has a long, short, or wire coat. They can have the appearance of either of their parents but will have usually have the short legs and long body of a Dachshund and floppy ears.

Dorgi

Dorgi.

Dorgis are very social, loyal to their families, and have friendly dispositions. These dogs have a squat, plump body, short legs, and a medium coat. Dorgis are great for people that have allergies since they shed very little. 

Dorkie

Dorkie.

A Dorkie is a cross between a Dachshund and a Yorkshire Terrier. These dogs have the color and coat of a Yorkie with the body of a Dachshund. Dorkies are intelligent, love to play, and are devoted to their owners. However, they are sometimes toy and food aggressive and may nip. They’re a good choice for families with older children who understand their limitations. 

Dox-Bull

The Dox-Bull referred to as the Doxiebull, or the Pitwee, is an excellent fit for any family. This breed is intelligent so that training can be a challenge. Dox-Bulls are fantastic dogs to be trained as therapy or guard dogs. The Dox-Bull usually has the head of a Pitbull and the long body of the Dachshund. The coat of this breed comes from the Dachshund and can be long, short, or wire-haired. 

Doxie

A Doxie is a mix of Dachshund and Beagle. When it’s mature, the size of the dog can vary, depending on whether one of its parents is a miniature or standard Dachshund. Doxies have high energy levels and need a lot of attention during the day. This breed is very affectionate, loyal to its owner, and friendly. 

Doxie Cairn

The Doxie Cairn is a hybrid that comes from breeding Dachshunds and Cairn Terriers. Although they can inherit their appearance from either of their parents, most Doxie Cairns has the same wiry-style coat as the parent that’s the same breed. Doxie Cairns are playful, devoted to their owners, and love spending time with them. This breed has a stubborn streak and barks more than some mixed breeds. Early training is a good idea with a Doxie Cairn.

Doxie Pin

A Doxie Pin is another miniature breed that only grows to be about 13 inches tall. The breed is a cross between a Miniature Pinscher and a Dachshund. The puppies can have the appearance of either parent but will be taller than a Dachshund at maturity. The breed has the tail of a Miniature Pinscher and a medium coat. Doxie Pins are affectionate and friendly. However, they tend to be timid so do better in a home with a calm atmosphere. 

Doxiepoo

A Doxiepoo is a Poodle mix between a Poodle and a Dachshund. The dogs can be small or medium size. If the coat is like the Miniature Poodle, it may be a low-shedding dog breed considered to be hypoallergenic. Doxiepoos with a Miniature Poodle coat requires a minimal amount of grooming. Doxiepoos are affectionate, clever dogs and are an excellent choice as a family dog.

Dusky

Dusky.

The Dusky is an adorable dachshund mix breed that comes from breeding a Dachshund with a Siberian Husky. The puppies may take after either parent and could have erect ears like the Husky or floppy ears like the Dachshund. Puppies may also grow to the size of a standard Dachshund or the Siberian Husky. Duskies love people and are very affectionate. If younger children are in your family, you’ll have to make sure your Dusky is appropriately socialized.

French Bull Weiner

The French Bull Weiner is also known as the Frenschund. A French Bulldog is adorable, especially when it’s crossed with a Dachshund. Puppies may look like either parent, but the coat will depend on the coat the Dachshund parent has. The French Bull Weiner tends to chase things, so it’s not the perfect dog for families with very young children. The breed is social, has a lot of energy, and can adapt well to any kind of living space. 

Golden Dox

A Golden Dox is a mix of a Golden Retriever x Dachshund. The Golden Dox has a personality similar to the Golden Retriever. They’re friendly with people and other animals. This breed is loyal and intelligent. Their gentle nature makes them an excellent choice for families with young children. 

Great Dane Dachshund

Breeding a Great Dane x Dachshund doesn’t seem possible, but this mixed breed is a beautiful dog. Great Dane Dachshunds tend to be medium size, with a long body and short coat. Even though this breed is larger than most mixed-breed Dachshunds, they’re very gentle, loving dogs. The dogs are loyal to their owners and love playtime, making them great family dogs.

Jackshund

Jackshund.

A Jackshund is a cute mixed breed dog that’s the result of breeding a female Jack Russell and a male Dachshund. They’re small as adults and like to bark, so you may want to enroll your puppy in an obedience class. Jack Russells have almost unlimited energy, so Jackshunds need a lot of exercises. 

Mauxie

One of the best Dachshund mixes for a new dog owner is the Mauxie. This dog is a Dachshund and Maltese mix. Since the Dachshund has different types of coat and the Maltese has a silky, long coat, these dogs need to be brushed each day. Regular visits to a groomer will keep their coat healthy. The Mauxie is a beautiful canine companion for any dog lover. This breed makes for easy dogs to train and loves spending time with its owner. 

Miniature Schnoxie

The Miniature Schnoxie is a cross between a Miniature Schnauzer and a Dachshund. They’re sturdy dogs despite their small size. They usually have the coat of the Miniature Schnauzer parent and might be hypoallergenic. The Miniature Schnoxie, also known as the Merle Schnauzer, requires little maintenance. The dogs are social around people and other dogs and are affectionate family pet.

Papshund

A Papschund has the adorable butterfly ears of a Papillon, a long, silky coat, fluffy tail, and the long body of the Dachshund. This breed is rare but is recognized by several breed associations. Papschunds are very gentle dogs, love attention, and spending time as lap dogs. The owner of one of these dogs must spend a lot of time with it. Papschunds do well around children as long as they’re handled gently.

Schweenie

Schweenie.

The Schweenie is a cross between a Shih Tzu and a Dachshund. These adorable dogs are excellent family pets and love being with their family. They’re an intelligent breed that loves being around people. The amount of care a Schweenie needs depends on their coat. 

Shethund

Shethund.

A Shethund is a Shetland Sheepdog crossed with a Dachshund. The puppies may look like either of their parents but often have the short legs of a Dachshund and the body of a Sheltie. This breed is brilliant, has a lot of energy, and is loyal to its owners.

Toy Rat Doxie

The Toy Rat Doxie is a small breed dog that stands about 18 inches high at maturity. They can live in any type of environment and have a moderate activity level. Their appearance is similar to a Rat Terrier, but they have a long body and snout-like the Doxie parent. These dogs are affectionate and independent.
