The Briard is a big and muscular herding dog with a long, slightly wavy coat. Briards are generally black, gray, or tawny. The hair of an adult is 6 or more inches long giving it an attractive, bushy look with a shaggy beard, eyebrows and mustache. The Briard's gait is floating and very agile. A farm worker by nature, this dog lives to herd anything! Eager to please their master, they need a firm owner who can show strong leadership ability. They can be very stubborn and even become unfriendly if not raised properly. They need a lot of entertainment and activity to be happy. They have an exceptional hearing ability and therefore make a wonderful watchdog. Sensitive, playful and obedient, but with definite minds of their own, It has been said, "The Briard returns tenfold any affection that is given it." These dogs weigh around 75 pounds and stand about 24 to 27 inches. |
