The Borzoi is a tall, aristocratic dog with a long, thin, narrow head. They originally come from Arabia. They are proud and extremely conscious dogs The ears lie far back on the neck but may stick up when the dog is alert. The longish silky coat is wavy with curls and a heavy mane at the neck. The coat colors are white, golden, tan or gray with black markings. The Borzoi is a sweet and intelligent dog. They can be trained but it should be recognized that they are hounds and are therefore more independent- minded. Borzoi often act almost cat-like as they are often cleaning themselves obsessively. They are very quiet and almost never bark. They cannot be trusted off of a leash because they love to chase any animal they see. Spending time outdoors with other small animals is not the best idea for these dogs as their quick snap will kill an animal in seconds! The Borzoi is not ideally suited for children either, as it does not take well to rough-housing. They stand between 26 and 28 inches and weigh between 75-105 pounds. |
