The Black and Tan Coonhound is a breed of dog developed to hunt raccoon, bear, cougar and alot of other game. They have eyes of hazel or brown and pendulous ears with black and tan markings very similar to a Rottweiler or a Doberman Pinscher. The most distinct characteristic of this breed is their long tails and ears and their loud, baying barks. "BAAOOOOOO!!!" he yells out in a very distinct howl! Black and Tan Coonhounds weigh between 65 and 100 pounds although males are typically larger and heavier boned than the females. They measure 23 to 27 inches at the shoulder and 8 to 10 inches at the head head (which is from the back of skull to tip of nose). This is a clever dog and a great companion. |
