Black Russian Terriers are a Russian breed of dog originally developed as guard dogs. They are very rare outside of Russia but are slowly earning recognition elsewhere. Male Black Terriers are bigger than the females; the male stands 25-29 inches at the withers compared to the female's 25-28 inches. The breed weighs between 80 to 140 pounds. Black Russians are very brave and observant and they have a protective instinct that will manifest at the early age of one and a half to two years old. They need to be properly trained so that their instincts do not manifest in overly bothersome ways. For the most part, they will avoid fighting other dogs and will have a strong, balanced temperament. |
