The Bernese Mountain Dog is a heavy dog, with a tri-color double coat of black with markings of rust and white. Inherently gentle and cheerful, they get along well with children. Also highly intelligent, they are easy to train and make the best watchdogs. Also, the Bernese Mountain Dog will never be overly aggressive. He is sensitive and therefore requires alot of patient, gentle training but he will not become mean. He also requires the company of people and does not relegate very well to the backyard. The male Bernese normally weighs 85-110 pounds and stands about 24-28 inches. On the other hand, the females weigh 80-105 pounds and stands from 23-27 inches. If you stay in an apartment, the Bernese is not an ideal pet for you for they tend to get inactive and bored indoors. They also prefer cool climates because of their thick coat. With the right kind of household, where the door is often left open and their is alot of room to run around, this can still be a great pet. |
