The Belgian Laekenois is a fairly rare breed. They are serious and ever watchful with a strong protective instinct. Some are extremely shy and sensitive. This breed needs extensive training from an early age, and it should be firm but not harsh. If you are too tough or overbearing with these dogs they will become extremely uncooperative. Their size varies between 24-26 inches in height and 55-65 pounds. They have a wire coat that gives a most unique appearance. The coat can measure over two inches in length. Colors include a range from fawn to mahogany with a black overlay. The body is sturdy and well proportioned. They make excellent police and guard dogs once they have been properly trained and this has been their primary function for many years. Nevertheless, they can still make excellent pets with the proper owner who will give them adequate attention. |
