The Australian Cattle Dog is a tough, intelligent dog with strength and endurance unlike any other dog of its size. The general appearance of this dog is that of a strong compact, symmetrically built working dog that knows his territory and has everything under control. He comes in colorings of blue or red speckle and weighs around 40 or 50 pounds. He has the ability and willingness to carry out his allotted task and will not avoid his work however arduous it is. This is one tough little "Aussie"! As the name implies the dog's prime function has been the control and movement of cattle. Always alert, and constantly on the move, he is never happier than when he has a job to do. This can be an ideal dog but he requires physically and mentally challenging activities in order to keep him happy and healthy. Long walks, plenty of company, and an active lifestyle are necessary to keep this dog at his best. |
