The American Staffordshire Terrier's muscled body and protective nature should make visitors beware. Still, with their own masters they are devoted, gentle and kind. A good upbringing and a loving home will make this dog into a sweet and lovable companion. Some American Staffordshire Terriers are dual-registered as an American Pit Bull Terriers, however they are not the same breed. The Staffordshire never reaches the size of many Pit Bulls, usually weighing only between 40 and 50 pounds and he is usually a few inches shorter, between 17 and 18 inches. These dogs are still very courageous and tenacious fighters, especially if they are provoked. The coat often tends to have mixtures of red, white, black and even blue. Training can be a challenge because of their pushy yet sensitive character. They are extremely loyal, however, and they do well with children. |
