This is a great looking dog with long hanging ears, a rounded head, and a distinctive silky coat. The hair is somewhat short around the head but tends to become longer down around the legs. They are fairly small, standing only about 14 or fifteen inches in height. The body is compact, with a short back. The coat comes in black, tan, cream or red sometimes with different combinations. They have good hunting instincts and make great pets. Bold and keen to work, the American Cocker Spaniel is equally suited to life as a gundog. He is cheerful, sweet, sensitive, and an inseparable friend of children. A happy tail-wagger, cockers love everyone and need people to be happy. "Cheer up!" they might say, "Its not all that bad!" Unfortunately, it might be worse than they think as these dogs can be difficult to housebreak. Also, some like to bark. Still, these dogs are mostly easy to train and they are a very popular breed. |
