If you are the type of person that cannot tolerate a bit of dog hair around the house, cannot cope with the disappearance of prized plants and flowers from the garden, then consider another breed. The Malamute is a powerful, independent dog that is generally resistant to “home training”. He is a very large dog and incredibly strong but these dogs were initially bred to haul large amounts of weight over a long and harsh distance. They are not made for indoors. They are not as fast as other dogs but they are one of the strongest of the northern breeds. They tend to stand around 24 inches and weigh around 80 pounds, the males being slightly larger than the females. The usual colors range from light gray through intermediate shadings of black, sable, and red. Although they can be aggressive to other dogs, they do not make good watch dogs because they will immediately befriend the would-be thief!
