The Akbash Dog is lean and strong with an elegant look. He is a large, all-white guard dog from Turkey who often protected sheep from predators. The body is muscular, long-legged and slightly longer than tall. They are capable of running at great speed and have a superb stamina. Males and females can look strikingly different; males growing 25 inches high and more than 120 pounds while the females may only reach about 80 pounds. The Akbash is completely dedicated and devoted to its owners and any animals in its charge. Due to their strong maternal instinct, they may form strong attachments to sheep, goats, cattle, horses and other livestock. Once bonded, the dogs will not hesitate to come to the rescue of their charges. This is a great friend to have when you are in a pinch! He will gladly risk his own life to save a friend. |
