This dog is loyal, but can sometimes be a bit stubborn. They are a medium sized dog, standing about two feet in height with a short, somewhat curly coat of tan fur. There is often a mix of black and red with the tan color. They are active, intelligent and very playful. Even though they are patient with children and tolerant of other household animals, they may sometimes try to dominate other dogs. This depends on the manner in which they were trained. Airedales understand quickly what trainers are asking them to do but, if they are not given a variety in training, they can become bored and refuse to perform. Make sure and spend some time with this pet when he is first learning and then you will be extremely proud of his ability. Three walks a day plus playing in the yard is enough to keep an Airedale happy. Swimming and playing catch are among its favorite activities.
