Going all the way back to 1,000 BC, the Ainu Dog is one of the oldest Japanese breeds in the world. Ainu's originated in the mountainous regions of Hokkaido Island and was brought to Japan by the ancient Ainus. This hardy dog was used for hunting large game and also makes an excellent guard dog. He has a husky, wolf-like appearance and is extremely courageous, self-confident and very alert. They generally weigh about 50-60 pounds with a medium short coat that is very thick. You will love to stick your hands in this furry creature and give him a good rub down! The coat comes in many combinations of gray, white, tan, brown or red.
