The Affenpinscher is a playful, wiry little dog that is extremely sharp-witted. This dog is great for teaching tricks and just plain goofing around! Originating in Germany, the name means, "monkey-like terrier." The French refer to him, however, as the "Diablotin Moustachu" or moustached little devil. These dogs have a neat but shaggy appearance. The coat is usually black or dark gray, but tan and red are also common. The undercoat is slightly curly. They are sturdy, compact but not delicate in any way. They usually weigh around 7 or 8 pounds. The female may have a slightly longer appearance. This dog has a terrier-like personality and has a special intelligence and demeanor that make him an extremely good pet. One of the most ancient of toy dogs, he shows a great loyalty and affection toward his master and friends. Take him home and you will have an excellent friend for life.
