The Afghan Hound is a sight hound with a very proud bearing. Tall and slender with a long, narrow, refined head, he has a very dignified look. His dark eyes are almond shaped and the ears lie flat to the head. The neck is long and strong and the large feet are also covered with long hair. The tail has a curl or ring at the tip and the long, rich, silky coat is most often tan, usually with a darker face. Indeed, this dog originated, as its name suggests, in Afghanistan. The Afghan is somewhat aloof, but very sweet and sensitive, with a low dominance level. The Afghan has been described as "a king of dogs." Majestic, elegant and noble, he is a great show dog. They usually weigh around 60 pounds and, although they can live indoors, they are best as an outdoor pet. They like to have a little space to roam around.
